This year, five of our seniors joined Master Linda and Master ZiChuan in Korea for the annual World Taekwondo Chungdokwan Summer Camp. It was an action-packed trip filled with training, competition, and unforgettable experiences.
The adventure began even before the camp officially started—with registration followed immediately by a challenging run up Namsan Mountain. From there, the week unfolded with both technical and physical highlights, including some daring demonstrations such as landing a backflip. We competed in the first United Nations Ambassador Cup at Kukkiwon. Despite the sweltering heat and long day, our team delivered strong performances we were also lucky enough to watch an amazing demonstration from team Mirme -seeing these performances in real life is something else . Master Linda, Ellen, and Esther represented well against tough opponents from top Korean dojangs. Our team's efforts plus Master Lisa from Stripes TKD helped our team achieve an impressive 3rd place overall finish. At the Chuncheon Korean Open, our athletes gained invaluable international experience. Esther and Ellen competed in both poomsae and sparring, showing determination in their first major international outing as new black belts. Master Linda marked a strong comeback to competition in poomsae after several years, while Lagna made her debut on the international poomsae stage. Master ZiChuan fought through to win a bronze medal, only stopped by Master Ko, the eventual gold medallist. A special moment was reconnecting with Master Kang (silver medallist this year), going back to a great dakgalbi restaurant from last year and meeting the legendary Professor Jung Kook Hyun—four-time World Champion, Olympic Gold medallist, and professor at KNSU—thanks to GM Park’s introduction. Even those who didn’t compete were inspired—Kenneth’s FOMO has fired him up to enter the Australian Open/President’s Cup this August! Before returning home we went to visit Master Tiger's new gym and training with GM Shin at the CDK HQ. It was great to be able to spend some more time with both Master Tiger and GM Shin before coming home. the team returned home motivated and ready to prepare for the NSW State Championships and National Selections, and the Australian Open/President’s Cup. |
