Grading | Small Group Park classes | Online Poomsae Comps

21/9/2021

Hi everyone,

Grading
Grading bookings are now set up.
There are 3 options this time
  • Small group in person (limited spots - probably best for white belts, kids who may struggle online, black belts must be in person)
  • Live Zoom session (specific times for specific belts)
  • Prerecorded - we will send you a link where you can upload your grading video
Please note - due to Covid19 there is no "Hoshinsul"/Self defence/One step sparring requirement

Small Group Park classes
  • There are some small group park classes in the system
    • People 16 yo+ must have 2 vaccinations to join the small group park classes
  • We are limited by the number of fully vaccinated instructors
  • As the instructors receive their second shots, we will put up more class times
  • One on one reviews in the park are still happening
  • Private classes (50 min) in the park are still happening
We might be able to train back in the dojang in about a month

Online Poomsae Comps
There are a few online comps around. Selina, Isaac and I just entered one this week.
If you'd like to do an online poomsae comp (basically you record the poomsae and submit) let me know and I'll keep you in the loop.
Australian Nationals (poomsae) is scheduled to be an online comp in November

Hi everyone,

There is some light at the end of the lockdown tunnel! Hopefully not an on coming train though...

Certificates
Grading certificates are finally ready!
  • Someone had to redraw the template so that we could digitise it
  • We shifted from using a type writer to printing them.
  • Will be given out during in the park classes or you can arrange to pick them up from the dojang.
  • We will post to students who live >5km away (waiting on some postage boxes so the certificates don't get damaged)

Thanks for your support!
A big thank you to everyone who donated to our Cancer Council fundraiser.
We raised over $2900 in just 2 weeks! It is great to be able to support a cause that affects so many of our lives and I will admit, I was happy for an excuse to cut my hair.

You can still donate here

Park sessions
It has been great to see students of all ages and levels enjoying our one on one reviews and private classes in the park.
  • We've really enjoyed seeing everyone!
  • Really helped complement the online training program
  • But we are feeling stretched thin scheduling people across 7 locations plus all the online classes
As the restrictions change, we are likely to make some tweaks to the review sessions to enable more people to attend at different locations.

Private classes in the park will remain available
Coming out of lockdown

Two clear issues we are thinking hard about:
  • There is still a risk of covid transmission for the foreseeable future. Even after shutdown ends. This has been our view since the end of the first shutdown.
  • Proof of vaccination - how do we manage this for existing, new and trial students. And how do we manage this when students turn 16?

So far there are 2 stages for coming out of lockdown.
13 September - outdoor gatherings of up to 5 vaccinated people (16yo+) are allowed
  • I called ServiceNSW 9th Sept (Thursday), they said to watch the website closely (now I'm curious)
  • 10th September The NSW Government website isn't updated yet, they are "tweaking" the rules ahead of Monday.
    • Kids don't count in the total
    • But...I'm sure we are not allowed to run a class of 30 kids outdoors...
    • We will wait for Sunday night/Monday to see what the actual rules end up being

Undisclosed date - when the state hits 70% double dose for 16yo+
  • Classes of 20 people (assuming including instructors) - this is similar to the limits we imposed during 2020/2021
    • But we must be very strict on ensuring everyone books
  • We will continue online streaming as an option for some sessions
  • 16 yo+ must be vaccinated
    • 12 yo and under do not need to be vaccinated
    • We don't know what happens to the 13-15 year olds yet but NSW Government has 6-8 weeks to figure this out
  • We will be thinking of ways to avoid class crowding (and parent crowds outside the doors) - good problems to have (hopefully) but still needs to be solved for
  • We will probably know the date at most one week before... so it'll be a last minute rush to set up the system (which we are very used to)
